On 15 August 2004, 40 Westies and their owners arrived
at First Lake Park in Lower Sackville Nova Scotia to
attend the Westie Rescue of Canada “Westie Walk”.
It was a hot muggy day, which kept many from
participating in the games that were organized;
however, everyone grabbed their water bottles and
followed our Piper, Barb, as she piped us on our walk.
Part of our Walk was on the sidewalk of a fairly busy
street and I’m happy to report that we stopped traffic
and received many stares and waves. It certainly was
a sight to behold.
Some people arrived with no Westie, but managed to “borrow” one from those of us who brought more than
one along. Carole brought her friend Maureen along to
help her walk her 6 Westies.
Since several of our Westies had "non-Westie" brothers
and sisters, we allowed everyone to participate,
although only Westies were eligible for the games and
Book of Records (although we did hold a "non-Westie" run at the Musical Hoops game)
After a chance to visit with new Westie friends, we
had a Parade of Rescues, where each Westie’s story was
told. Sammy was there, with his new Westie brother
Seago and his Golden brother Bailey. He had a
wonderful time, and just stood there taking it all in.
Some people drove as long as 3 hours to attend the
Walk and we’d like to thank them for their attendance
and support. I can honestly say that everyone had a
wonderful time.
